Photograph of the white marble art deco exterior of the Folger Shakespeare Library on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. The library has the world’s largest collection of works by William Shakespeare and related Shakespeareana. Henry Clay Folger assembled the collection and the library building in modern classicism opened near the U.S. Capitol in 1932. The architect was Paul Philippe Cret, and the East Capitol Street façade features bas relief sculptures by John Gregory depicting scenes from Shakespeare plays.
